Jazz Is Dead: Theo Croker

IMG_6719.PNG

You may recollect seeing Theo at our past #jazzisdead accompanying Gary Bartz, but this time around, he was the headliner debuting his new music and band #StarPeopleNation. The Los Angeles Jazz scene was definitely representing in the building for this show!

Opening up the night was our favorite resident DJ Wyldeflower, who took it back with tunes from some of ArtDontSleep’s live ensembles from the #Timeless series. Then, we welcomed newcomer R&B artist Devin Morrison, who performed for the first time backed by a live band. He had everybody in their feels with his smooth sounds and he even brought out special guest Joyce Wrice to share a song with him onstage.

Since the last time we had Theo back in February, he has flourished as an artist and musician, and his new album truly showcases his amazing growth. This fresh new sound that he brought for the show was such a unique blend of both modern jazz with a heavy incorporation of dub. All of our guests were loving the vibe and embraced it all with open arms. We had the pleasure of seeing Polyseed’s very own Rose Gold and Terrace Martin as special appearances on behalf of Theo, and their musical connection live is undeniably good.

The Lodge Room was filled with so much soul and this lineup really brought out a younger crowd of likeminded creatives. Check out our recap of the night below, and we will catch you at the next #jazzisdead!
